Shroom and Gloom Builds: Card Growth and Combo Lines

The six levers
Grow the cheap cards, do not just collect rare ones
The official pitch is "infinite growth": grow low-level starting cards into over-powered attacks, or modify rare cards into game-breaking super-weapons. A card seen in an official screenshot carries 97 uses — evidence that growth is not capped at small numbers.

Build two decks, not one
The combat deck wins fights; the explore deck moves you through tunnels, modifies your cards and unlocks new weapons and abilities. Neglecting the explore deck removes the tools that upgrade the combat deck.

Kill with cooking cards, not just damage
ROAST reads "Deal 12 damage. If FATAL, make TOASTY." Fatal-triggered cards only pay when the blow finishes an enemy, so damage tuning matters more than raw totals — overkill wastes the trigger, and undershooting loses the corpse.

Eat and cook instead of blocking
"Why block your enemies when you could eat them instead" — the official framing. Roasted enemies restore health, and thrown in a pot they make soups the developers call game-changing.

Camp deliberately
CAMP FIRE adds WARMTH "to hold danger at bay". Resting draws a fresh hand, but hazards make some rooms expensive to rest in, and lingering invites The Gloom.

Two paths, two card pools
Early Access ships two separate routes to The Gloom with entirely unique card pools, so a line that works on the original cave path may have no equivalent in the Facility.

What creators have demonstrated
| Claim | Who | What it shows | Caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| An "infinite damage engine" is reachable in the demo | Zueljin Plays | A full run video built around scaling a single attack card past normal values. Treat it as a demonstration that the growth systems stack, not as a recipe — the Early Access card pools differ. | Demo build, before the Early Access changes |
| The demo can be cleared in about 16 minutes | Midnight Matinee, via speedrun.com | The current listed demo record is 16:05, which sets the floor for how short a clean run can be. | Speedrun conditions, demo build |
Open questions before launch
- No card rarity tiers or drop rates have been published.
- Character-specific starting decks are unknown — the roster was announced without them.
- Whether growth carries between runs, or resets, has not been stated in any dev log.
There are no published tier lists for Shroom and Gloom, and inventing one before Early Access ships would be guesswork. What follows is the set of build levers the developers have described in official material, plus what creators have demonstrated on video, each with its source.
The card text these levers rely on is transcribed on the cards page, and which class you are running changes what is available — see characters.
